Bahrain based Jodie found her passion for photography in her early 20s when she left Australia and started travelling the world. Her goal in every shoot is to capture a moment in time, and of people, places and things that tell a story.
I am an Australian living in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. I have been a professional photographer for the past six years, and have a special interest in photo journalism; a style of photography which uses images to tell a story. My goal in every shoot is to capture a moment in time, and of people, places and things that tell a story.
I found my passion for photography in my early 20s when I left Australia and started travelling the world. Leaving my homeland and being a stranger in often very strange lands, I found myself wandering, observing and experiencing new sights, sounds and smells, and with so much diversity and new environments, I knew I just had to somehow capture these moments and memories; and so my photographic journey began.
As a person that thinks outside the box, I find photography gives me an outlet to channel my out-of-the-box creativity. I am constantly thinking of new concepts and ideas that will allow me to expand my own skills. I love photography, and I really enjoy working across all different genes, but I also love the photographic artistry that comes with the editing process after every shoot, which allows me to give each image that extra artistic touch. All these different genes really lets my creativity flow and makes me work hard; thinking carefully about each shoot, as each gene requires different skills and different ways of photographing it. Working across different genres also allows me to remain fresh, and helps to continually improve my photographic and artistry skills. I love the challenges that each area of photography gives me; they allow me to constantly expand my creativity and not get complacent, and having the photographic skills - and an eye for creativity - has allowed me to capture some really amazing images, both in Bahrain and abroad.
What inspires me? Well, mainly I am inspired by people living their everyday lives; a man collecting cardboard outside the cold store, someone sitting on the street corner selling fruit and veg, the birth of a new baby, a fishermen with their leathery skin from years of working in the sun. I love walking around capturing the essence of the people and places, taking a snapshot of that specific moment in time. Street photography is one area of photography I really enjoy because there is nothing planned; it’s all about taking opportunities when they present themselves. No matter where we look in this amazing, diverse world we live, I cannot help but be inspired, and I love that photography allows me to really focus on the details and capture these amazing moments. To me, every moment has a significance and, as a photographer, I have met so many amazing, diverse, interesting people. Without the camera, I most likely wouldn’t have met these people, heard all their amazing stories or had the experiences I have had. For this reason, I feel I am truly blessed and very fortunate. When I started the photography journey all those years ago, I never imagined it would take me into so many people's lives.
