Dr. Ahmed has been interested in art and photography since his high-school years back in the 1950s. But, in 2003, after retiring from a career in medical administration, he became specifically interested in creating steel, wood and bronze sculptures.
With sizes ranging from small and medium pieces of work, to much larger outdoor pieces over two meters high, Dr. Ahmed uses a variety of different media with his sculptures, including steel, wood and bronze. He has a passion for gardening, so a lot of his inspiration comes from nature, and he aspires to create modern contemporary shapes that blend with natural forms. His outdoor sculptures are painted with bright vibrant colours that complement the colours of flowers and at the same time, stand out against the greenery of plants, trees and bushes. With his indoor sculptures however, to have a more natural essence to the piece, he likes to stick with the original colour of the materials used. For example; when working with wood, he likes to work in harmony with the movement formed by the natural grains and likes to portray basic shapes and forms, with curves and circles, that give feeling of grace and elegance.
“Today, in art, we are truly one world and the art heritage of all ages and all nations is part of all of us. I am attracted to new ideas and new approaches from around the art world.” Dr Ahmed Abdulla Ahmed.
